The Canadian Ambassador Guy Saint-Jacques and his wife Sylvie, with Nick Cham, chair of the board, CCBC
The 25th Silver Canadian Charity Ball organized by Canada China Business Council (CCBC) in Beijing was a grand success. The event took place in the Renaissance Capital Hotel Beijing on December 1st. A total of 270 guests attended the evening including the Gold Sponsor Teck Resources, Silver Sponsor Bennett Jones and the Event Sponsor Canadian International School of Beijing.
The Canadian Ambassador Guy Saint-Jacques made a wonderful speech to praise the CCBC charitable efforts and the good work EGRC has done in helping young women’s education in rural China. Seven sponsored students volunteered at the event by performing and selling raffle tickets. There were many wonderful prizes offered by local and international businesses in China. One of the grand prizes in the raffle was a pair of return business class air tickets from Toronto/Vancouver to Beijing offered by Air Canada. In our live auction, Ralph Lutes, the Asian Affairs & Chief Representative China for Teck Resources, bid and won the piece of original art work created by a sponsored student. A cheque of 100,000 RMB was presented to EGRC from CCBC in front of all guests.
The Masquerade Ball filled with lively energy, the night ended with a live band playing and people dancing.
“I am so touched by seeing this tremendous support from CCBC, all the corporate sponsors and other Canadians and Chinese in the Charity Ball. It was a wonderful opportunity for the sponsored girls to meet the donors and supporters. Looking around that evening I was reminded of Mr. David Mulroney, the former Canadian Ambassador; two years ago he opened the door in Beijing for EGRC. Since then many wonderful opportunities have happened because of his support.
On behalf the board of EGRC and all the sponsored girls I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to CCBC and all the people who contributed and attended this successful evening. With such united efforts I can see more young women are going to have the opportunity of getting an education in the near future.”
